Campania is a region of ancient winemaking traditions, which in recent times has been able to produce white and red wines of a very high level. From a geographical point of view the cultivation of vines in Campania is favored by the presence of a surface area that is 50% hilly and over 30% mountainous. The plain represents only 15% of the region.
In Campania there are over 25,000 hectares of vines and a predominant production of black grapes. The main training system is changing from the traditional pergola to the espalier and counter-espalier, although the methods in such a large region vary according to the area. In the Caserta area the so called “alberate maritate” were preferred, while the bush vine is more common in the province of Avellino and in high mountain or hilly areas in general.
